Sharing a meal with great friends, prepared by a passionate master chef is something that everyone should experience. Last Friday, I had the good fortune to grab dinner with good friends Ryan Montecucco and Tal Moore and experience such a miracle at what I believe is one of the best Indian restaurants in Seattle. Following a late night piano/guitar Marley jam session at Ryan's we decided to check out Bengal Tiger on Roosevelt and 65th. After sitting down, the onus was on me to select a few tasty dishes to share. Nothing excites me more than reading through the menu to piece together an exciting and tasty selection that would fit together like a game of Tetris (level 19).
I often struggle with selecting the "right" Indian dishes because I can never decide on the type of curry or tandoori dish. After asking our waitress to suggest a popular dishes and sensing a lack of confidence, an Indian man by the name of Muhammed Uddin, turned from the bar and told the waitress to step aside so that he could offer some suggestions. It turns out Muhammed was the head chef of the restaurant with an interesting background including having his picture taken with Bill Gates when he came to visit his old restaurant. Instead of recommending what to order we asked him to prepare for us his favorite dishes, Omakase Style. Intrigued by the offer, Muhammed left or the kitchen to prepare what would be a special meal.
The lamb chops were succulent and juicy prepared with a coriander twist. The samosas weren't overly fried or thick but soft and fluffy and filled with goodness. The three dishes served with a savory garlic naan and a sweet brown sugar filled naan were all unique in flavor and texture but not overwhelming.
The meal was a delight and the company, including our chef, even better. If you're feeling like some warm Indian comfort food to combat the coming of Fall in Seattle then I would highly recommend this place!
