Spicy Mango Salad at Lemongrass, International District

Yesterday afternoon, my friend Tal and I were craving a new asian experience, where better to wet our palettes than International District. I heard about Lemongrass after one of my recent blog posts, so we were inclined to give it a try. In the same shopping/food center, we found a number of inspiring Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants we wanted to try, unfortunately, between the two of us we only had 2 stomachs. When we entered the restaurant at the oddly lunch hour of 3 o'clock, the staff was enjoying their meal at the back table. Our very sweet vietnamese waitress was happy to tell us about her favorite dishes: salads, soups, and grills.

We were instructed to order the Spicy Mango Salad because it was her favorite and then proceeded with a soup and Lemongrass Beef. The lemongrass bees was delicious, but there's nothing else I could say about the Spicy Mango Tofu Salad other than "perfection". It was served with wide noodles, lightly fried tofu, sweet bell peppers, large chunks of mango and cilantro. The salad was drizzled with a tangy and spicy dressing that was so tasty, we ordered a loaf of baguette to polish off the extra sauce in the dish. Forgive us for ordering bread at a Vietnamese restaurant, but when the large hot loaf of baguette arrived, we went to town until the platter was white again. I couldn't help but recount a fond memory of my uncle when I was a kid, instructing me to clear my plate with a piece of bread, enjoying every last gout! Merci tonton Simon. If you're in the mood for a fresh vietnamese salad, head over to lemongrass and be sure to ask for a loaf of bread, you won't be disappointed.
